Getting started

Image
Welcome to my new blog. The purpose of this blog is to keep friends and family updated on my progress building a Carolina spritsail skiff. Many thanks to Grant Caraway at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC for sending me the plans from their archives. The original plans date to 1911, so this type boat's been around for more than 100 years. It's a shallow draft sailing craft used in the bays and sounds of North Carolina. If you are interested in following my progress, please subscribe to the blog. I'll post descriptions and photos of my progress. The first boat I built from blue prints, a 12' sailing dingy, took three years. That boat was a lot more challenging than this one (I hope), so I'm hoping to finish in about 6 months. We'll see.
